Social Media Analysis

There are many music artists that use their platform to highlight different social issues.  Much like Childish Gambino with This Is America (2018) and Black Eyed Peas with Where Is The Love (2003).  I am choosing to focus on Joyner Lucas.  The rapper that writes about problems he sees today.  One of his older pieces from 2018, Frozen, surfaced on Twitter with the music video to spread awareness for driving under the influence and texting while driving.

It is important that people like Joyner Lucas use their fame to spread awareness of the problems in the world.  Celebrities are watched on a very high scale so they are able to reach a larger audience than you or I ever could.  This video was able to reach out to not only fans of Joyner Lucas but people all over Twitter.  All these viewers were able to learn a very valuable lesson about the importance of safe driving.  By doing so, can help the world become a safer place in the sense of safer driving habits.

The video is very graphic but moving to get his point across.  Joyner Lucas also uses harsh language to accentuate the importance of these topics.  He points out all that people can lose because of reckless driving, not only the driver but there are others around the driver that can be affected.  In this video, it shows heavily injured people as a result of unsafe driving.  There are three victims in the video, a man, a woman, and a child.  These victims are the ones that seem to be rapping although they are presumably dead.  The song is the victim’s thoughts after the accident occurs.  The first victim shown is a little girl.  She is laying in the road, in a white dress.  The producer placed this girl in a white dress to symbolize the innocence she had. The little girl goes on to explain all the things she will no longer be able to do because of a young woman’s mistake.  This young woman had been texting on her phone, therefore distracted from her surroundings.  The little girl says “wish I could kiss my momma by and if she ever see me like this, she’ll be traumatized...no more kisses from daddy ‘cause I left and died all because this stupid b**** wanted to text and drive”.  This quote is pointing out that this little girl is not the only victim of this woman’s reckless driving, her parents lost their child in this event.

The next victim is a woman who had gotten in the car with someone who had been drinking.  The drunk driver had crashed and killed the young woman in the passenger seat.  Not only was the woman killed but she was also pregnant and the baby was killed as well.  This victim also explains all the other people affected by her death, “No more comin' home from work and cookin' dinner for my man...No more homework with my daughter, no more second chances

No more baby in my belly, sad to say we died all because you choose to drink and drive why?”  These are all people that had to lose her, the woman was a wife, a mother, and expecting.  She points out the other options that she had instead of getting in the car with someone who was under the influence.  She says, “I should have never got inside your car I should have stayed at home or just went shoppin' at a different store I should have waited or just called an Uber, but I live too far”

The final victim is a man.  He had been driving recklessly and flipped his car.  He says he had been warned that it was dangerous and did not listen but now he’s dead.  By deciding to race in an open alley at high speeds.

In between each of these verses, the chorus comes in sung by Jade Novah about glass flying.  She highlights that there is no turning back from these mistakes, the results are irreversible.  In the last chorus, the video shows the three victims, together.  We find out at the end of the video that the three victims are a family.  This family lost everything all because of automotive accidents that could have been easily avoided.  People should not be driving at high speeds, while on their phones, or under the influence.  The video closes by showing each person’s accident scene once again.  This is followed by a black screen with the letters in all caps in white, “DRIVE SAFE.”  Joyner Lucas ends the video this way, especially ending it in a period, to state the importance of safe driving through two simple words that have heavy meaning behind them, especially following a video so moving.  This is a lesson for everyone that driving is a huge responsibility.  If not done safely, lives can be lost.

The image is a square album cover. In the foreground is a flipped, totaled grey and blue car. Black smoke is coming out of this car from all angles. The car is placed on a black gravel road with white lines down the center. On the road there are black, swerving skid marks leading to the flipped car. Around this road is a dry, orange, mountain, and sand-like region. Above the mountains in the background is a sunset sky. The sky is yellow, orange, pink, and purple with a little bit of white with clouds. Written in the sky is Joyner Lucas in a cursive-type font. Sitting inside the letter J of Joyner is a silhouette of a man. Underneath this is the word frozen in regular, non-cursive, bold, and all caps. In the bottom right corner, there is a yellow and transparent sticker that says "parental advisory explicit content".
