A/V Project

For this project, I decided to create an alternate website to showcase my work.  Please refer to this site to see the work I have done.  Looking back on the project I really enjoyed doing the work.  Digital drawing is something I enjoy doing in my free time.  This project took a lot of time to work on.  I would work on almost each of these drawings for almost a few hours at a time.  I would find any free time I had and work on any drawings I could.  It had first started out with me recreating pictures of me and my boyfriend for fun.  I then learned to use the app to edit photos/logos/posters for our club hockey team here at St. Bonaventure along with working on creating logos for the bar my father is reopening.  This project idea sparked when I was redrawing a picture of myself in front of a local butterfly mural on Elmwood Avenue painted by Nicole Cherry.  I love looking at the murals in Buffalo and taking pictures of and with them.  This one by Nicole Cherry I had found on my birthday and uploaded a photo in front of it to instagram.  I had tagged her in the photo to which she responded in the comments.  A lot of artists enjoy having people admire their art.  Taking pictures with the art is a great way to admire it and share the work with others.  So I had decided to remove myself from the foreground of the photo and redraw the mural itself, along with many other murals in the Buffalo area.  On my alternate website I give credit to the original artist along with their instagram handle and where the mural is located in Buffalo, N.Y.  I plan on direct messaging each of these artists on their instagrams to share the website link with them.  I want them to be able to see their work in a new medium of art.

In my efforts some of the murals were more difficult than others.  Whether it was small details, tedious line work, or lettering I hit a few obstacles.  This project gave me a newfound appreciation for these artists.  I am not artistically gifted in the way these artists are.  I realized that if I was struggling to draw some parts of these murals on my iPad I could only imagine what it was like working on the real thing.  Especially since some of these murals cover whole sides of buildings and my work is covering a small screen.  These artists that I recreated for are extremely talented and deserve to be recognized.  That is another reason why I am glad I chose to do my A/V project on this.  These artists are having their art displayed in a new way and they deserve for people to see the originals.  Next to each of my recreations I have a copy of the original work so viewers can not only compare but admire the beauty of the original art.

In relation to the question of fair use I had not originally asked the artists for permission.  I believe that since their work was on display publicly out in Buffalo that they may appreciate my work.  But since you can never be too sure this is another reason why I am sharing the website with the artists.  If they want me to take down their work and my recreation of it I will do so.  I want to admire their work but at the same time respect the artist and the original work itself.  I believe my project passes the four factor test.
